Regardless of the errors, the passed balls, the wild pitches and the silent bats, Bishop Carroll catcher Kyrie McKee said the mood remained upbeat in the Eagles' dugout Friday night.

"When we get down, we find a way to fight," McKee said. "That's the true character of Carroll right there. We've always been able to do that."

The odds of it happening in the Class 5A softball quarterfinals didn't look good for four innings against Blue Valley West. But Carroll used a pair of four-run innings, highlighted by McKee's bases-loaded triple in the top of the seventh, to rally past the Jaguars 8-5 at Hummer Sports Park.
